In theory yes. I would have thought a larger number of points would have made more difference though. 25 points for a win outweighs it enormously

If you don't try it how do you know you don't like it?

Sad news today of the sudden death of Charlie Whiting. He was somebody who the whole sport trusted to make the fight decisions, even if it went against what they wanted.

He will be missed enormously

Echo your sentiments Diamond.

He was a well respected part of F1 for many years - a guy to look up to.

It is such a shame isn't it. All the tributes show that he was a good man

Well the first practice sessions are done and dusted. And we've still not learned much other than the top teams are the fastest, the midfield is slower and Williams are very much off the pace

Exactly what we knew two weeks ago

Qualifying tomorrow. That's when we finally see who's got what

And now we have the results and it's clear that Mercedes have been keeping their pace hidden. However the red bulls are strong and Norris did well in his first qualifying

Roll on tomorrow and the race. I can't wait

Yep. The Mercedes looks like having the fastest car by some distance. It will be interesting to see if they have the race pace to match their qualifying speed.

Norris did very well in the McLaren. Didn't expect to see them in Q3.

Roll on the race tomorrow.

Well the result was unexpected in two way, firstly with Bottas being so dominant - 20s is a huge margin these days, and secondly with Ferrari being so far off the pace. Good to see Red Bull might be strong this year too.

A shame for Ricciardo retiring for his home race.

Looking forward to reading the full details

Watched the highlights now. Bottaa was certainly on form. Let's hope he can be consistent with his performance. It's clear Vettel had an issue and Ferrari wouldn't let Leclerc pass him, which probably masked the actual pace of the Ferrari. And Norris was very handy with that pass

The midfield is so close. Looking forward to going to a circuit where there are some real overtaking opportunities

Interesting race indeed, though I do hope that team orders don't stop us seeing exactly what Leclerc is capable of.

And you can always guarantee on Max Verstappen adding some excitement to the race !
