Valentine

Love it or Loath it, it's still a fact.

Personally we don't celebrate it it any way that has a £ cost. But it's still worth a kiss and a hug.

So to all my friends here I send you a great big virtual hug.

RE: Valentine

What do I think of Valentine's Day and the hype around it? Well let me tell you a little story.

When I first starting seeing my hubby -then boyfriend- I asked him what we were doing for our first Valentine's, expecting some grand gesture. Instead he told me that he didn't bother with it as his last girlfriend (who was incredibly jealous and unpredictable) said she didn't like the concept. Her thinking, similar to what's been said above, was that he should be romantic every day without being told to do it on one particular day.

My response? I'm not her! Along with a couple of expletives - lady like ones of course! To my mind I didn't want my lovely new boyfriend's ex girlfriend's opinions determining how I was to celebrate Valentine's Day. He soon saw the light.

I agree to a certain extent about the commercial aspect of the day, rise in price of roses etc. But remembering when I was a teen and the excitement and sometimes disappointment of receiving a card from a mystery admirer, or sending one to someone who didn't know you existed, was such a thrill. I once remember finding a beautiful card under my car wipers outside work with a cryptic message. When I found out who had sent it I'll admit I wasn't impressed and nothing came of it, but I was flattered all the same. I'll also admit to keeping it for a while after.

So, maybe the pressure is on to spend a lot, but a hand written note can go a long way.

After many years together we do still celebrate Valentine's Day, but we also treat each other throughout the year too. We have a hotel night away next week and I have a coupleof surprises up my sleeve.

Lovely words Lady,
Totally agree with you about the commercialism that has crept into Valentines Day, but it's still nice to exchange tokens
of love with your soulmate isn't it?  Even after almost 43 years of marriage Mrs Yuri and I still give each other cards
as a token of our affection!
And your night away next week sounds the perfect Valentine gift for you and Mr Lady.
You mention you have a couple of surprises, I wouldn't mind betting hubby has some sexy surprises for you too !

Enjoy !!

Great post Lady L and spot on, in my opinion, in so many ways.
Although I don't know about your surprises that you have in mind for hubby. I can only pass comment on those when you share them with the forum next week.
(See what I did there?)

Happy VD everybody.

Wise words there.
Say no to that extra glass of wine or buying that shirt that you don't really need but never, ever, ever say no to a hug.
It may be a friendly hug or it may be an intimate hug.
It may even be a hug from your loved one as a prelude to sex; wild, intense, animalistic sex!
So for fuck's sake, as quoted above, 'never say no to a hug'.

(Please disregard the above if you're in the Arctic Circle and a seven feet tall 'bloke' in a polar bear outfit wants one).
