Holding up your hand as a hedonist.

Looking back at my life, I guess I have always been a hedonist, but it's only recently that I considered the label as nothing else seemed to fit me when setting up profiles. Pleasure, however obtained has always been of the utmost importance to me, but for quite a long time I lost this in myself and got bogged down in all the distractions and time consuming crap that grabs a hold of you when you start to get older.

I've always been into taking recreational drugs, nothing heavy like heroin or crack mind, but just the stuff you can take or leave that makes for a wicked night and sometimes a shitty midweek. Likewise with drink, once I get going I can drink to excess and will very rarely refuse a drink unless I'm driving, ill or am already on another stimulant.

If it feels good and doesn't harm anyone else (not so bothered about it harming me) then I have always been pretty much up for anything, now perhaps more than ever.

One thing I'd say to you all, if you used to be wild in your youth and you now find that life is boring, depressing and unfulfilling, remember what it was that you loved and try to rediscover it before it's too late.

Jeez, did you see that head come apart?

When I was younger (read College through Uni) I was certainly hedonistic with regards to drink & drugs; not so much regarding sex though. Sad

Then I graduated and headed off to do my teaching qualification and haven't done drugs since, and have also very rarely drunk to the same extent or in the same way since. Sad

RE: Holding up your hand as a hedonist.

I hold up my hands as a hedonist and aim to live a pleasure filled life as much as possible. I'll try most things out in the name of fun, but if it's not any fun I sure as hell ain't doing it again!

Was very heavily into drinking from about 16, then discovered drugs shortly afterwards - dope and speed mostly. Then in my 20's I moved onto e's. It all petered out in my 30's, as did my social life, as all my friends buggered off to settle down and reproduce, the boring bastards! In my 40's I have realised that even though it takes me a bit longer to recover, I can still live it up like the youngsters do and still have just as much fun. I refuse to grow old gracefully.

But being a hedonist this doesn't only apply to a good night out, I try and live the life, and I have made decisions along the way to preserve that, like not having kids, and excluding people from my life because they cause me distress, and I know some people will think that this makes me selfish, and they are probably right, but as long as I'm not hurting anyone, one mans pleasure is another mans poison.

well said mrs t - you have actually been the opposite of selfish. selfish people have kids and then try and carry on the hedonistic lifestyle (im talking major headonism here a little is good for all of us). that just hurts the kids - look at the kids of rock stars for example most are fucked up royally.

Thumbs Up RE: Holding up my hand as a hedonist.

Cheer*throws both hands high over his head* ... then realises that nobody is watching ... *sigh*

I have lived most my life with 'the pursuit happiness and the thorough enjoyment of all of lifes' pleasures, while doing no harm' as my primary mantra, even way before I learned that it was termed ... HEDONISM! lol

If you are not enjoying it ... you are doing it wrong!

Cool
